This is the first time I've seen one of that size. Most of the time I saw the little ones only - when I first saw him I thought he was a green iguana, another invasive species.

United States, southern Florida. We get so many invasive exotics here.

Ohhh, I grew up in southwest Florida. I never saw a basilisk there! Interesting.

They seem to be a new thing. They also look a lot like iguanas from a distance, but when they take off they launch their chests forward and take off on their back legs. If you've never seen one before, I recommend YouTubing a video of them running, it's the strangest thing. :)

We've got all sorts of cool stuff. Alligators, cuban anoles, green anoles, great blue herons, grackles, mockingbirds, green iguanas, Moscovy ducks...
